This workshop is being held to discuss and then produce a prospectus document outlining the UK’s “Strengths and Priorities” in Arctic terrestrial research.
Online, 2nd, 4th and 9th December 2025, 12:30-15:00 each day.
Registration deadline 31st October
As we approach International Polar Year 2032/2033 it is important that the UK can clearly convey its Arctic terrestrial science strengths and research priorities for the benefit of funding bodies, and for collaboration with other disciplines and with the international community. The resulting document will be made available on the NERC Arctic Office web site, and will be distributed to UK funding bodies and to key international partners.
The workshop welcomes Arctic terrestrial scientists at any stage of their career who are based in the UK at the time of the workshop.
To facilitate attendance, the workshop will be online only and split over three 2.5 hr meetings on different days. This split is to allow focussed discussion of a specific question each day (see below), and also to avoid fatigue that could arise from an all-day online event.
The terrestrial remit of this meeting will follow that of IASC (link): “Arctic terrestrial and freshwater environments, landscapes and biota, and their responses to, and interactions with, other components of the Earth system. The remit encompasses the dynamics of the Arctic system; past, present and future”.
The remit does not include glaciers, ice sheets or geoengineering.
