The NERC Arctic Office is pleased to announce two new opportunities for UK-based researchers to support impactful engagement in Arctic science and policy.
Funding Opportunity: Supporting Impactful UK Arctic Science Engagement 2026–27
The call for applications is now open for the Supporting Impactful UK Arctic Science Engagement 2026–27 funding scheme, offering researchers based in the United Kingdom the opportunity to secure funding for practical research and engagement activities that support the work of the Arctic Council, the priorities of the Kingdom of Denmark’s Arctic Council Chairship (2025–2027), and wider Arctic science priorities.
Following the success of the 2025–26 programme, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has extended the scheme for a further year, with the potential for continued investment over the subsequent two years. The scheme aims to:
- Support the active and effective delivery of projects across the Arctic Council’s six Working Groups and related activities.
- Create opportunities for UK researchers to share expertise, develop new collaborations and expand their impact.
- Strengthen the UK’s role as a committed and active Observer to the Arctic Council by contributing to areas of shared international priority.
Delivered in partnership with the NERC Arctic Office and the UK Science and Technology Network, the scheme is open to researchers based at UK universities, research centres and other institutions eligible to receive UKRI-NERC funding. Funding is available for projects that can complete their activities during the 2026–27 financial year (1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027).
The deadline for applications is 16:00 (UK time) on Friday 11 September 2026.
