MOSAiC Workshop – Monday 17th July 2017

The NERC Arctic Office is hosting a full day workshop on MOSAiC, the International Arctic Drift Expedition, on Monday 17th July at the Aurora Innovation Centre in Cambridge.

MOSAiC Image 1MOSAiC is a year-round international expedition into the central Arctic Ocean to explore the Arctic climate system. It has been designed by a consortium under the umbrella of the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), led by Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (Russian Federation) and the University of Colorado. The focus of MOSAiC is on direct in-situ observations of the climate processes that couple the atmosphere, ocean, sea ice, bio-geochemistry and ecosystem.

The United Kingdom has recently become a partner in the MOSAiC initiative. This workshop is designed to spread awareness of the initiative; to develop a shared understanding of the timelines and processes for engagement and potential support; and to begin to identify common areas of interest for the UK-based research community and areas for potential international collaboration.

We are delighted to say that the workshop will be attended by Prof. Klaus Dethloff, the co-lead coordinator of MOSAiC, who will present the latest position on the scientific and implementation plans, and opportunities for international engagement.

The event will be an important opportunity to increase the awareness and potential of MOSAiC and the ways in which UK-based researchers can benefit from, and help to shape, the United Kingdom’s involvement in this important initiative. Complimentary refreshments and lunch will be provided. There is no registration fee. Final timings to be confirmed, but are likely to be 1030-1630.

To register for this event and receive further information, please send your details to the NERC Arctic Office at  by Friday 7th July. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you on the 17th.
